Ubud Monkey Forest Travel Guide


Located around 80 kilometers north of Kuta in Bali is the Ubud Monkey Forest, it is on the outskirts of the village of Ubud. The forest incorporates around 27 acres of scenic forest with many species of native trees. Temple sites and a large population of Long-tailed Macaque monkeys.

The Sacred Monkey Forest is very popular with tourists who can get up close with the monkeys. Enjoy the ambiance of the forests and the temple sites. There are bananas for sale at the site to feed the monkeys. A small fee is payable to enter the forest area.

The Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal temple is located in the forest as well as a Holy Spring bathing temple. Another small temple used for cremation ceremonies. The temples reflect the unique style of Hinduism that is practiced in Bali. The whole forest along with the temples is considered a sacred area. The Monkey Forest is owned by a nearby village who are also responsible for maintaining the forest and it’s sacred values.
