Khao Sarn Road, located in central Bangkok has been described as the
Khaosan is literally “Milled Rice” and refers to the streets former role as a rice market. These days it is crammed with budget accommodation houses, bookshops, laundries, restaurants, bars, markets and more. Many small and cheap travel agents service the backpacker trade and can organise trips and visas to many south east asian countries. The bars are well known as backpacker hang-outs where stories and tips are exchanged over a drink.
It is home to the cheapest and most diverse range of foods in Bangkok – although perhaps not the most authentic in terms of local cuisine. The area hums with an upbeat feeling and is now also popular with locals, in particular the young and hip.
