Located in the heart of the beautiful Banff National Park about halfway between Banff and Lake Louise Johnston Canyon is a truly beautiful natural wonder. Easily accessible from the Bow Valley Parkway the pathway into the canyon is paved and well maintained. There is a 600m (660 yard) walk to the lower falls and a further 20 – 30 minutes up the trail will bring you to the magnificent upper falls – a must see!
Also along the way you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Castle Mountain as well as some of the most beautiful forest scenery you’ll find anywhere in the world. The Ink Pots are 6 spring fed pools at the bottom of Johnston Valley. Their green clear waters remain at around one degree Celsius all throughout the year. The hike to the Ink Pots is about 3 km (1.8 miles) from the Bow Valley Parkway and takes around 2 – 2.5hours but the path is quite easy, although it is unpaved.
