Salta Travel Guide

In the foothills of the Andes, Salta is both a city and a province in north western Argentina. There are almost half a million people in this remote city, making it the 8th biggest of the country

The province is a beautiful area where the scenery is adorned with canyons and mountains and the towns are well preserved bastions of colonial architecture. Salta city itself has some excellent examples of Spanish architecture including the Cathedral and the San Francisco Church.

The districts surrounding have some high quality wineries while the landscapes are varied with plains, valleys and sparse cactus covered hills. Ruins of old Inca settlements can be found throughout the Salta province and the city of Salta is located at the site of a former Inca village.
